Child Focus Africa Current Events
Now that the Special Unit Children have a home, the focus of Child Focus Africa in Migwani is as follows: |
* to provide funding for food for the children
(currently they count on the kindness of local people for each meal). |
* to provide assistance for the Mutulu Children’s Education Fund -
a group of 29 single mothers who have formed a mutually supportive
co-op to help each other put their children through school |
* to gather and ship school supplies for the Special Unit Children |

Attached is a letter and photo of Mrs' Monkman's Grade 8 Leadership Class from the Smithers Senior Secondary School.
I recently did a presentation there on Compassion (and I discussed the Migwani Dormitory Project. While there I was presented with a donation of $200 from this group for Child Focus Africa!

The children/dormitory have no money to
purchase supplies or clothing for the children and so they really appreciate
supplies we can send them.
At present we are able to get some
supplies to the Special Needs group in our dormitory via the trekkers with the
Killimanjaro expedition. We have to be careful choosing the things we send,
i.e. bulky, heavy things aren’t practical to ship) The supplies they can use are:
- Clothing – fleece, and nylon (cotton an wool clothing
tends to wear out and is more difficult to clean.
- School supplies - such as pens, pencils, sharpeners,
chalk, duster, foolscap,
- Child development
and psychology books,
plastic blocks, (fixing blocks) (e.g. lego)
- Play materials
skipping ropes, balls (a deflated soccer ball goes a long way)
- Plasticine (modelling clay)
- Bedding (if you put
out a call for bedding to your friends, you will be inundated with worn
sheets - I don’t know what else to say, maybe send a couple good sets and
save the rest for rags - the limitation is the 50 lb baggage rule)
Think bed in a bag.
- Stapler,
paper
punch
files (probably anything practical for filing - including a Saskatchewan
briefcase)
- If we could get more
computers, we would teach our children without speech AAC.(Augmented
Alternative comm.) We are hoping to get electricity soon. (lots of
people have out-of-date laptops that are still good over there)
Anything
else that can be used .
- Knitting needles,
needels, thread, etc. Those hoop things would go a long way.
