Update: A team of 3 professional volunteers from Canada spent 10 days in Migwani in the fall of 2012 helping with hospital procedures, care of the special needs children and other related issues. The team was lead by Dr. Biz Bastian of Smithers, B.C. and the trip was highly successful. Medical Upgrade The team leader Dr. Biz Bastian, will work with Doctor Gichoni and his staff in the Migwani Hospital reviewing procedures for the purpose of improving them. The team will also establish an on-going program of consultation with possible return visits and provide whatever assistance they deem to be necessary. Because this is a first trip to Migwani, Dr. Bastian feels that specific objectives need not be established until after the situation is reviewed. The other 2 members of the team are Joan Brown (RN) and Val Cook (school teacher). In addition to the above work in the hospital, Dr. Bastian's team will evaluate conditions in the Dormitory (built by our organization) which is now home to approximately 90 handicapped children. They will also liaise with two other groups - - The Kwus Africa, in it's continuing efforts to improve living conditions for the residents of Migwani, has formed a medical team of volunteers to spend one week in the Village working with local hospital staff with the objective of improving health conditions in the Village. eetala Na Watwayo harambee - a group of 90 people with HIV aides and - The Mutulu Village Womens’ Group - a group of 40 single mothers who want to establish self-dependence.
In all three cases listed above, Dr. Bastian’s team will endeavor to improve conditions by offering professional tutelage and advice to the people, set up assistance programs and provide on-going consultation where appropriate and possible.
